ERP-Easy,Riskfree,Priceless!!!!

Problem statement:
As a growing midsize organization ,we need a sophisticated way of combining several traditional management functions into a logical integrated system and facilitate flow of information across these functions. We think, ERP  is designed to model and automate basic processes across the organization over a centralized database and eliminates the need of disparate systems maintained by various units of the organization. So,it will be the best feasible solutions for this scenario.

Solution: X10hosting come to our rescue as it provides creation of free DNS and the ability to choose from various software which are free of cost.
OrangeHRM is built on top of the AMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack. This allows us to provide a lightweight and robust system based on open source technologies, which can also scale.
We chose the Orange HRM software despite of having various other options (like SAP R/3, Oracle e-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, MicroSoft Dynamics, Lawson Financials etc.) for some specific reasons:
  • As Misys is a midsize company, cost reduction is one of our principles. Looking from that perspective, we were looking for an easy-to-access stand alone application with no extra hazard for database maintenance instead of costly applications like SAP, PeopleSoft etc.        
  • With OrangeHRM , there will be no extra cost of training and maintenance.
  • Application like SAP is not user friendly and with large data chunk,the backend response time is huge.
While using them,we came to know the following user flexibilities of OrangeHRM :

  • opportunity to redefine our organization structure
  • Leaves and work shift management which till now was done on paper create unavoidable delay are now on click of a button.
  • The objective oriented performance management helps our senior management to grade employees without any personal biases and within a definite time line.

Limitation :
There are certain limitations which we find as compared to SAP HRM
1.The biggest concern with OrangeHRM is security threat. Obviously a free software will not be able to prevent hacking/evasesdropping to a high extent.
2. Auto generation of employee id numbers sometimes limitates the requirement.
3.The number of employees that the system can handle is limited to 1000 employees.
4. The pay slip and Form 16 generation is not possible.
5.Tracking whether someone is working onsite or not is not there.
6.Travel requisition,reimbursement facility for business travelling for different grades of employee for office work is not possible.

Some Customisations done by me:
1.As financial knowledge is the heart of our organisation, we expect each of our employee to have certain level of financial knowledge for both personal and organisational growth. That is the reason we introduce Misys Certified Banking Solutions Expert program in the Membership domain of the application, which every employee has to be trained and pass certain exams for next promotion. The training cost will be beared by the individual itself, keeping in mind the huge market valuation of such a certificate. The program has two levels, which employees will choose according to his position in the hierarchy.


2.We assume the following business units to be under Universal Banking, the current biggest project.
 
So, this same structure we intended to reflect in the organization structure of the application.
Job categorywise , we divide the structure as follows:

So, an employee can have supervisor and subordinate from different business units, but in a single project.
